The American Curl is one of the most anomalous breeds in the United States. Distinguished by its unique ears that curl backwards, the American Curl is also known for its full feathered tail and soft coat. They are an average-sized cat whose trademark ears only begin to curl after 3 to10 days and, once they're fully curled, will stay that way for life.
American Curls, or simply 'Curls' for short, are very curious cats. Curls are said to maintain kitten-like behavior throughout their adult life, and are sometimes referred to as 'Peter Pans' because they never seem to grow old. Their adorably playful nature makes them simply 'ear-resistible!'
The American Curl is also very affectionate and into people, and it's often said to exhibit a sort of dog-like dedication as it follows you from place to place wanting to play. Because the American Curl is so social, it adapts very well to children, other pets, and new surroundings.
The history of the Curl is like a real American dream. One day in California, Joe and Grace Ruga found two stray kittens, one of whom was Shulamith. That very same stray cat, with the funny little ears, would go on to become the female founder of the American Curl breed.
