The Miniature Horse is distinguished almost solely by its size. The breed comes in a variety of colors and patterns and is found all over the world. Now, the definition of 'miniature' depends on who you're asking. Even the different miniature breed registries in the United States have different standard specifications for categorizing an American Miniature Horse. Some registries also require the horse to be more pony-like in its appearance, while others prefer a purer horse-like stature.
The Miniature Horse is very friendly and wonderful with people. Subsequently, they are sometimes used as service animals, helping the visually impaired and other people living with disabilities. Because they're so genial, American Miniatures are also often kept as pets, but they are much healthier when allowed to live and roam outside.
The American Miniature is also a popular showcasing breed that often delights viewers and children, who are enraptured by its endearingly small stature and outgoing personality. This is a horse that makes friends easily.
Despite its size, the breed is still hardy and known for living long lives. With an average lifespan of 25 to 35 years, the American Miniature Horse's life expectancy exceeds that of many other breeds. They have very few health problems or defects.
Usually the product of natural environments, miniature breeds began to be bred specifically for size in the seventeenth century when they became popular as pets for members of the European nobility. In England, some were used as pit ponies in the mines where strong, but small cart horses were needed for the tight spaces. The miniature breed was eventually refined in the United States in the twentieth century by selecting certain standards and cross-breeding with other breeds like the Hackney Pony.
