The Australian Terrier may be tiny, but these little scallions have a remarkably deep bark. Adaptable to any climate and all sorts of living conditions, the Australian Terrier is patient, durable and easy-going.

The Australian Terrier loves to travel and is happy going for a brisk city walk or jet setting while tucked under his owner’s arm. That said, this tiny fellow isn’t simply a decorative accessory, nor is he a toy breed. The Australian Terrier was bred for working and is a natural ratter. Bred to hunt out rodents and other pests, the Australian Terrier loves to dig and lives for the chase.

These easygoing fellows get along well with other animals, though they may bark a bit at other males. Unlike other terriers, they don’t bark often and usually just to sound an alarm.

The Australian Terrier is a smart dog that enjoys and excels at obedience training. They’re also remarkably agile and make great obstacle course runners and trick performers. So, whether it’s for a city dweller’s apartment or a trainer’s country run, the Australian Terrier fits right in.

In terms of grooming, their shedding is kept to a minimum as long as you can commit to a good brush and combing at least two to three times a week. Nails should be trimmed monthly, especially if the Australian Terrier spends most of his time indoors.

In terms of health issues, veterinarians and breeders suggest that you ask about the dog’s risk for patellar luxation, heart disease, diabetes, and Legg-Perthes.
