Known for their glossy black coats, muscular build, and round, golden eyes, Bombay cats are very striking in appearance. This eye catching, domestic shorthair also makes a wonderful and gentle companion.

Bombays are normally suited to apartment or indoor living. They can become nervous quite easily, so it's recommended to keep them as indoor cats. Bombays are also very affectionate and calm and will actively seek out heat, so you may have a hard time getting them off your sometimes too cozy lap.

And while Bombays will get along quite well with dogs, it's fairly common for them to have a difficult time adjusting to other cats in the house. Keep this mind if you're planning on introducing a Bombay into a home with an already established feline presence. These delightful companions are also known for having healthy and strong appetites, so you may want to consider filling up that dish with some low-calorie cat food.

The Bombay was originally bred in Louisville, Kentucky and is the result of a cross between a sable Burmese and a black American Shorthair.
