The Boxerdoodle is a cross breed between a Poodle and a Boxer. Though popular and loved, the Boxerdoodle is not an official breed, nor is it recognized by the American Kennel Club. The cross-breed is thought to combine the shed-free coat of the poodle with the high-energy spirit of the Boxer.
Though not recognized by the American Kennel Club, the Boxerdoodle breed is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC), a group for cross-breeders and popular cross-breed dogs.
Ideally, a Boxerdoodle will keep the intelligence and almost hypoallergenic coat of the popular poodle along with the playful and active personality of the Boxer. Typically, this breed loves to play catch, go for long runs, throw the Frisbee around and wrestle in the yard with the kids. Because of their healthy energy levels, it’s important to make sure your Boxerdoodle gets lots of exercise.
Like a Boxer, the Boxerdoodle usually gets along well with everybody and once they sniff a stranger out, they’re happy to curl up next to a houseguest or invite them to play a game of tug of war.
In terms of health issues, veterinarians and breeders suggest that you ask about the dog’s risk for progressive retinal atrophy, heart disease, cardiomyopathy, cancerous tumors, colitis and hypothyroidism.
