A close longhaired relative of the Manx, the Cymric is known for its small or sometimes absent tail. Linked to a genetic mutation of the spine that causes it to shorten, the tails will often resemble rabbit bobs. The Cymric also has a silky double coat that is complimented by proud tufts of fur on the belly and neck.

One of the most intelligent breeds, Cymrics love to play games and have a bit of a reputation for chasing anything that moves, whether it wants to be chased or not. They also like running water, so while it may be easier to give your Cymric a bath, it may be hard to get them out of the sink while you're trying to do the dishes.

A Cymric is a wonderful addition to a home. They bond well with all family members, including children, and enjoy playing with other household pets. That said, because the Cymric is so social, it's not recommended to leave it alone for long periods of time.

The name 'Cymric' comes from the Welsh word 'Cymru,' meaning Wales, though the breed may have originated on the Isle of Man. Some cat breed associations consider the Cymric to be a Longhair Manx, while others make the distinction between the two breeds.
