One of the rarer breeds, the Devon Rex is a cat in high demand. Distinguished by their unique coats, they have only two layers of hair and it is both soft and naturally curly. When you combine this with their big eyes and even larger ears, it gives them a pixie, almost elfin, look. Devon Rex kittens will often molt, or lose their hair, but it grows back, so don't worry.

Devons, as they're sometimes nicknamed, are often described as a cross between a monkey, a dog, and a cat. Like dogs, they will follow their humans around the house and like to get underfoot. Like monkeys, they are extremely agile and very strong jumpers. No matter where you find your Devon Rex, don't be surprised.

Devons are also quite exploratory and enjoy a healthy appetite. So, keep those treats well hidden or in a locked drawer. The Devon Rex is sure to entertain you with acrobatic feats and antics, but may not be for you if you prefer a quieter and more docile lap cat.

Though the Devon Rex can sometimes resemble the Cornish Rex breed, they are distinct. The first Devon Rex was Kirlee, a stray kitten found in Devonshire, England. Because the Devon Rex does not shed as much as other breeds, they are sometimes recommended for those with allergies, but this should always be tested before bringing a cat home.
