The Eskapoo is not a purebred dog, nor is it a recognized breed. Eskapoos are a hybrid or cross breed developed from the Poodle and the American Eskimo Dog. However, the cross is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).
Though the Eskapoo cross can pull behavioral characteristics from both the Poodle and the American Eskimo Dog, the Eskapoo is best known for its big smile and sparkling white coat. These high-energy pups are also independent with a splash of sass.
Despite its small size, the Eskapoo likes to play, usually loves the snow and has the shed-free coat of a poodle. They also have the intelligence and sweet temperament, making training generally easy.
When training an Eskapoo, you must be patient and understanding. As puppies they tend to have short attention spans. That said, the Eskapoo is known for its smarts and once it becomes an adult, is a quick learner when it comes to tricks and training. These delightfully energetic dogs are also big chewers, so have lots of chew toys ready.
The Eskapoo can live in a house with children, but tends to prefer adults. These sassy little fellows like to be the center of attention, making them jealous of new babies or small children.
In terms of health issues, veterinarians and breeders suggest that you ask about the dog’s risk for patellar luxation, epilepsy, diabetes, and heart disease.
