Much like its Persian relatives, the Himalayan is noted for its very long and fluffy coat. Most Himalayans will have white or pale bodies with colored points (that is, tail, face, ears, and feet) and bright blue eyes. They are also sometimes called “Colorpoint Persians,” depending on where you are in the world.

Though luxurious and beautiful, the Himalayan coat requires a lot of grooming and a daily commitment from its owner to brush and comb the hair. It's not only tangles that can cause problems, Himalayans are also known to be more prone to hairballs. Regular baths and blow-drying are recommended.

They may require a bit more maintenance, but the sweet Himalayan disposition makes it all worth while. Himalayans are very social cats and make excellent companions. They love to curl up on laps or get into bed with you, and can be very loyal to their owners.

Developed by cross-breeding Persians for their long hair and Siamese for their color-pointed features, the Himalayan is a very popular breed. That said, they may be more susceptible to genetic deformities or health problems due to inbreeding. It is important that you provide your feline friend with regular vet visits.
