One of the oldest natural breeds, the Japanese Bobtail is unique because of its bobbed tail which resembles a rabbit's. Japanese Bobtails will come in a variety of colors and patterns, with one of the most popular being the calico pattern. They have large eyes and, though rare, are known for producing kittens with odd-eye, that is two eyes that are different colors.

Japanese Bobtails have soft voices and can be very vocal. They will often talk back to you, the radio, or sometimes the television. Because of their wide vocal range, there are those who say the Japanese Bobtail can sing. These active cats also like to carry things in their mouths, so try to provide toys or you may find household items, like your socks, going missing.

The Japanese Bobtail is a very social and adaptable breed. They fit in well with families, and get along easily with children. Because they're so intelligent and easy-going, they're very easy to train and make good travelers.

Rare and ancient, the Japanese Bobtail is a natural breed that comes from Japan. Legend has it that it lost its tail when a cat, who was warming himself by the hearth, had his tail catch on fire. The cat ran all through the city setting buildings on fire, and caused the Emperor to declare that all cats have their tails removed.
