Adult Weight: 7-11 lbs.Breed: LaPerm
- Very people oriented
- Curly hair
- Affectionate personality
A distinctly American breed, the LaPerm has become popular all over the world. Known for its curly coat and sweet disposition, the LaPerm is a sought after cat. A LaPerm's coat can range from loose and wavy to tight, ringlet curls with prominent tufts of hair on the belly and neck. Longhair versions will typically have a curly, plumed tail.
LaPerms are also fairly unique in that they will often actively seek out human contact. They have very affectionate personalities and love to be pet. They can be very 'touchy' and like to rub against you, put their paws on your face, and cuddle.
Though the LaPerm is an active breed, they are also content to sit on your lap. LaPerms will often follow their owners' lead and fall into step. If you're up and about, then so is your LaPerm, but if you're having some downtime, then expect a nap companion.
The history of the LaPerm began with a genetic mutation in Oregon. A hairless kitten with a tabby pattern was born in a barn cat litter, but, after about 8 weeks, she began to grow soft and curly hair. Being a barn cat, her owner let her wander the farm, but soon noticed a growing population of kittens with distinctly curly hair. After bringing her special feline to a cat show, the new breed was discovered and named.
