Adult Weight:10-14 lbs.Breed: Manx
- Often tailless
- Very intelligent
- Loyal, but independent
A large and robust cat, the Manx is known for its smaller or sometimes all together absent tail. This distinct feature is caused by a genetic mutation of the spine that can cause the tail to shorten. The Manx can be shorthair or longhair, though sometimes the longhaired Manx is referred to as a Cymric.
The Manx is classified as one of the more intelligent breeds, so you may need to figure out a more clever way of hiding treats rather than simply tucking them behind closed cabinet doors. Manx are also drawn to running water, and though it might be easier to give your Manx a bath, you may have a hard time getting them out of the sink when it's time to do the dishes.
A Manx will bond extremely well with a family, including children, but it's often said that once a Manx becomes attached, it's difficult to get them to accept a new home or family. Also, because the Manx can be quite social, it's not recommended to leave them alone for too long.
The Manx breed developed hundreds of years ago on the Isle of Man, off the coast of England.
