A smaller version of its massive counterpart, the Miniature Bull Terrier still retains all the entertainment, excitement, affection and determination of the breed, but just in a smaller package. Individual dogs will vary, but most Mini Bulls are accepting of other animals and good with children. Typically though, Miniature Bull Terriers do best with less dominant or assertive breeds, as they like to be the boss.

Despite their boisterous and fun-loving outlook on life, the Mini Bull is still a strong and somewhat stubborn terrier. Training success is achieved using food, praise and lots of fun motivation. Trainers will be most successful when they make work seem like play.

Like their Bull Terrier brothers, Miniature Bulls are prone to big bursts of energy. When the doorbell rings, you’ll hear nails scratching on the floor and dogs sliding into the wall as they race around the house for a few laps trying to get themselves under control. Most Bull Terrier owners don’t need a television, they get most of their entertainment from watching their dogs.

They were originally bred as strong and fearless ratters. So, with their well-muscled frames and ability to pull strong loads, the Mini Bull Terriers are more than capable of taking out a rat or proving their athletic ability. These dogs excel at agility, flyball, terrier digs, tracking and even weight pulling.

In terms of health issues, veterinarians and breeders suggest that you ask about the dog’s risk for progressive retinal atrophy, lens luxation, patellar luxation, glaucoma, heart defects, deafness, kidney disorder and laryngeal paralysis.
