The Norwich Terrier is a lovable, friendly and outgoing dog. They’re perfect for children and senior citizens looking for companionship. These dogs are also courageous and loyal without being overly aggressive. If you live in an apartment, or do not have a large yard, the Norwich Terriers are ideal pets.

Typically, the Norwich Terrier is easy to train and care for. With enough toys to keep them busy, they will bring joy to any household. The Norwich Terrier should not be left outside alone for long periods of time, as it has a tendency to dig holes and bark for attention. It is also advisable to keep them on a leash when outdoors, as they can wander off easily.

For the Norwich Terrier, consistent routines and rules are important. Because these are working dogs, daily exercise is also crucial to their well being. Frequently, behavioral problems can be solved by adding more exercise time. On the whole, they’re less prone to emotional problems than the related Norfolk Terrier.

The Norwich Terrier requires minimal daily brushing. Shampooing should be kept to a minimum. Nails should be kept short.

For the most part, Norwich Terriers are very healthy. Some may suffer from eye diseases and back disorders. Typically these can be avoided by selecting puppies based on genetic traits.

Historically, the Norwich Terrier was used in England to hunt vermin and foxes. Because they work well in packs, many Norwich Terriers were included in fox hunts. To this day, these dogs still naturally gather in packs to hunt down mice and other small rodents. Even if they are the only dog in the house, they are excellent mousers.
