Adult Weight: 6-10 lbs.Breed: Oriental
- Shorthair
- Very intelligent
- Talkative
Much like its Siamese brother, the Oriental cat is known for its svelte and graceful body that is muscular, but still regal and elegant. Orientals also have seemingly long faces that are accented by their large, almond-shaped eyes and big, pointed ears. Unlike the Siamese, the Oriental is not restricted to one color pattern, and will come in over 300 different possible color and pattern combinations.
The Oriental has been noted for its intelligence, and when combined with its curious nature, you will get a cat that loves to explore every nook and cranny of your home and knows just how to open all the doors and drawers it needs to do that.
An extremely social cat, the Oriental becomes very attached to its family and will usually bond with all members. They are so personable, they'll often greet you at the door when you come home, meowing and calling for you to tell them about your day! Because the Oriental is so social, they can sometimes become depressed or despondent if left alone for long periods of time. If you have a quiet house, it's recommended to bring an Oriental into a multiple pet home.
The Oriental breed developed out of the first Siamese cat that was brought to England from Thailand. The two breeds were eventually separated, with the Siamese being distinguished for its chocolate colored pointing (that is, the face, ears, tail, and paws).
