The Papoo is a fairly new breed of dog. They were developed out of a desire to have a toy dog that would be non-shedding like Poodles. Depending on the traits of the parents, Papoos can be very calm, or they can be high strung. It will take some research to ensure that an individual Papoo has the temperament you are looking for.

For the most part, the Papoo is friendly and fits well in families with children. Because they tend to be small, care should be taken to protect them from boisterous play. These dogs enjoy exercise and can walk for miles.

The Papoo is ideal for people with allergies. Because they don't shed and don't have an odor, they are not as likely to trigger allergic responses. They're also ideal if you don't want to spend a great deal of time picking up dog hair from your carpets and furniture.

Since the Papoo doesn't shed, it requires little, if any, grooming. You may elect to trim these dogs like poodles, or merely have their hair shortened. Nails need to be kept short.

Because the Papoo is a mixed breed, it tends to be healthier than both Papillons and Poodles. Of course, it is still too early to tell what types of illnesses will develop as the breed becomes more established.

Historically, the Papoo comes from two dogs with a rich history of being show dogs and household companions. Papillons have been included in many famous paintings, while Poodles have a long history of being kept in elite households.
