The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is an ideal guard dog. They are good with their families, but do not trust strangers. Depending on their environment, they can become problem barkers. Socialization is an important part of their training, as they're apt to become aggressive without it.

As working herd dogs, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi's have a natural tendency to herd other animals and people. This is sometimes accompanied by nipping. Their intent is not aggression. This is important to recognize when training them. Although the habit can be difficult to break, many owners have been successful. While these dogs can be good with children, supervision is needed. Typically though, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is obedient and does well in shows and competitions.

Because Pembroke Welsh Corgi's have an abundance of energy, they need a good bit of exercise. They will easily adapt to apartment living and make their own entertainment. That said, being indoors will not usually stop them from being active. They will need plenty of toys to keep their minds active.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi has short fur that is easy to care for. They require only an occasional brushing. Bathing and shampooing should be kept to a minimum. Nails should be kept short. If fed too much, the Pembroke Welsh Terrier will easily become obese. Aside from this, they are prone to eye and back problems.

The Pembroke Welsh Terrier has its origin in Wales. They were used to herd cattle and are still used in this capacity today. These dogs are also a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II.
