Adult Weight: 7-12 lbs.Breed: Persian
- Longhair
- Requires regular grooming
- Indoor cat
Known for its luxuriously long and thick coat, the Persian is the most popular breed in North America. They are characterized by not only their beautifully lush coats, but also their small legs, wide heads, and short muzzle or, as it is sometimes commonly referred to, their adorable, little smushy faces.
Because the Persian has such short legs, they don't really like to climb, jump, or perform any acrobatic feats. Rather, the Persian is content to enjoy your lap or a ray of sunshine coming in through the window.
Their coats require a strict grooming routine that involves daily brushing and combing as well as regular bathing and blow-drying. You must always blow-dry a Persian after washing it, because not only could the cat catch a cold, but you will also be faced with an almost insurmountable amount of tangles.
Very sweet and gentle, the Persian often prefers comfortable and familiar environments that are calm and quiet. If you have a high energy household, you may need to acclimatize your Persian from a young age as they can startle easily and will often become nervous in loud or raucous environments.
Arising out of the Iranian Plateau, the Persian is one of the world's oldest breeds. A Persian cat without an official pedigree is referred to as a domestic longhair cat.
