Adult Weight:8-12 lbs.Breed: Selkirk Rex
- Curly haired
- Reserved
- Good with children
Known for its soft and curly coat, the Selkirk Rex has a distinctly touchable look. This large and heavy boned feline can be either shorthaired or longhaired, but always exhibits a rounded face and head. The longer a Selkirk's hair, the looser its curls, but its coat is always plush and a pleasure to pet.
Known for their trademark patience and tolerant personalities, the Selkirk Rex makes a wonderful pet for families with children or other animals in the home. They're very relaxed and loving, and therefore seem to adapt well to busier or, perhaps, more rambunctious households. Though giving and affectionate, the Selkirk Rex can be somewhat reserved and is okay with being left alone for longer periods.
A healthy and robust cat, the Selkirk Rex isn't too athletic, and is often quite content to spend the day relaxing with you on the couch or enjoying a good window sill.
The Selkirk Rex is one of the newest naturally occurring cat breeds. It originated from a curly house cat found in a shelter in Montana in 1987. Unlike the Devon Rex or the Cornish Rex, the Selkirk mutation is a dominant gene. Sometimes, cats born with two copies of the Rex gene may be prone to having excessively greasy coats and might require increased bathing.
