Hairless, but brilliant, the Sphynx are a particularly rare breed. Other than what could be called a fine down, a Sphynx has almost no hair. The skin color of a Sphynx will reflect what color their fur would be if it was present. With facial features that somewhat resemble a Siamese, the Sphynx has a wedge shaped head, pointy ears, and a sturdy heavy body that often boasts a tiny belly.
Often considered the most intelligent breed, Sphynx can sometimes, like an Oriental, be quite mischievous. They're also known for their clumsiness, a feature not often seen in felines.
Perhaps because they get cold easily, Sphynx love to cuddle, whether it's with you or each other. But remember, they are susceptible to temperature changes, so it's important to keep a Sphynx in a warm environment as well as limit their exposure to outdoor sunlight to prevent sunburns.
Because they do not have hair to protect the skin, they can often become dirtier, so you should get your Sphynx used to a regular bathing routine from a young age. Though the Sphynx don't shed, they are not a hypoallergenic breed and people with allergies should always test their comfort level by handling the cat for an extended period of time before making a decision to adopt.
There have been hairless cats throughout history, but most modern day Sphynx are descendant from one particular strain that came out of Toronto, Canada.
