The Stretletsky, or Strelets Arabian is an extinct breed. But, in its day, the Streletsky was an attractive horse designed for cavalry work. There were 3 main types of these horses: Eastern, Basic, and Heavy and its categorization depended on size and Arabian influence.

The Streletsky is a casualty of war. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, the breed was killed off by the Russian army. However, it lives on in the beautiful Tersky breed. The Tersk's purpose was to replace the Streletsky and rose out of the only known two remaining silver-gray stallions. Three pure Arabians were introduced into the bloodline and helped develop the distinctly light and elegant Tersk breed.
