The Tersky Horse is very similar in appearance to the Arabian horse only larger in size. The horse has a straight profile with a beautiful head that is characterized by large eyes and long ears. Their legs are hard with muscular hindquarters and strong hooves, and they have a deep chest and high tail. They are renowned for their gorgeous silvery gray color which is often referred to as “silver in the sun.” They can occasionally be seen in bay and golden chestnut.

These animals have a very friendly, laid back temperament, long lifespan and are very easy to train. Thanks to their versatility and intelligence, the Tersky makes a great sports and recreation horse. They excel in the areas of endurance and dressage and are particularly well suited for use in circus performances. Many Tersky horses have managed to succeed in various world-class competitions.

The origins of the Tersky date back to the nineteenth century with the extinction of the Streletsky Horse, a casualty of war. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Streletsky breed was killed off by the Russian army. However, it lives on in the beautiful Tersky. The breed we know today rose out of the only known two remaining silver Streletsky stallions. Three pure Arabians were introduced into the bloodline and helped develop the distinctly light and elegant Tersky breed. In 1948, the breed was officially recognized.

Today, the Tersk Horse, as it is sometimes called, is relatively rare, and its estimated that there are less than two thousand in existence. But, its an exclusive breed that remains highly regarded and subsequently protected.
